Topography and Soil Organic Carbon in Subtropical Forests of China

چکیده
Soil organic carbon (SOC) strongly contributes to the operation of global cycling, and topographical factors largely influence its spatial distribution. However, SOC distribution leading impact in subtropical forest ecosystems (e.g., Zhejiang Province China) have received relatively limited attention from researchers. In this study, 255 soil samples were collected quantify variation forests. Spatial distribution of soil organic carbon stock in Moso bamboo forests in subtropical China
Moso bamboo (Phyllostachys heterocycla (Carr.) Mitford cv. Pubescens) is an important timber substitute in China. Site specific stand management requires an accurate estimate of soil organic carbon (SOC) stock for maintaining stand productivity and understanding global carbon cycling. This study compared ordinary kriging (OK) and inverse distance weighting (IDW) approaches to study the spatial ...
متن کاملSoil organic carbon decomposition and carbon pools in temperate and sub-tropical forests in China.
Decomposition of soil organic carbon (SOC) is a critical component of the global carbon cycle, and accurate estimates of SOC decomposition are important for forest carbon modeling and ultimately for decision making relative to carbon sequestration and mitigation of global climate change. We determined the major pools of SOC in four sites representing major forest types in China: temperate fores...
متن کاملVegetation change impacts on soil organic carbon chemical composition in subtropical forests
Changes in the chemical composition of soil organic carbon (SOC) might strongly affect the global carbon cycle as it controls the SOC decomposition rate. Vegetation change associated with long-term land use changes is known to strongly impact the chemical composition of SOC; however, data on the impacts of vegetation change following disturbance events of short durations and succession that occ...
متن کاملResponse of soil labile organic carbon fractions to forest conversions in subtropical China
In order to determine the impact of forest conversions on labile organic carbon fractions, soils at depths of 0 10, 10 30 and 30 50 cm were collected from three types of forest: secondary monsoon evergreen broadleaved forest (BF), mixed pine and broadleaved forest (MF) and Masson pine forest (PF) in subtropical China. The light fraction organic carbon (LFOC), particulate organic carbon (POC) an...
متن کاملAltitudinal variation in soil organic carbon stock in coniferous subtropical and broadleaf temperate forests in Garhwal Himalaya
BACKGROUND The Himalayan zones, with dense forest vegetation, cover a fifth part of India and store a third part of the country reserves of soil organic carbon (SOC). However, the details of altitudinal distribution of these carbon stocks, which are vulnerable to forest management and climate change impacts, are not well known. RESULTS This article reports the results of measuring the stocks ...
